Eco-Schools Malaysia Briefing Session

Y.Bhg. Tan Sri / Dato’ Seri / Datuk/ Dato’/ Datin/ Prof./ Dr./ Tuan / Puan,

Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC) is partnering with Green Growth Asia Foundation (GGAF) to expand the implementation of the Eco-Schools Programme.

What is Eco-Schools Programme?

The Eco-Schools Programme was launched in 1994 by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) in several countries in Europe in response to the needs discussed at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development. Today, the Eco-Schools Programmme is the largest sustainable school programme in the world with the involvement of over 59,000 schools, 20 million children and 1.4 million teachers from 70 countries.

The Ministry of Education Malaysia has recognized the Eco-Schools Programme since 2011 and gave permission for schools to participate in this programme. The Eco-Schools programme brings forward the National Education Philosophy in the development of students from various aspects of student development as well as the implementation of other educational policies such as the Malaysian Education Development Plan (PPPM) 2013-2025, JERI concept (Physical, Emotional, Spiritual, Intellectual), School Transformation 2025 (TS25), the Policy to Uphold the Malay Language and Strengthen the English Language (MBBMBI) and the 2nd Wave Malaysian Education Quality Standard (SKPMg2).

It is the students who have attended the Eco-Schools Programme who will help Malaysia adapt, innovate and improve the characteristics of sustainable development. They are the ones who will create more green technology ideas to preserve environmental sustainability in Malaysia, change the way Malaysians think in everyday practical matters such as the best waste disposal (3R), the way of life without plastic (Zero-Plastic Pollution), how to reduce carbon generation (45% by 2030), how to use power more prudently (Energy Reduction), wise in the use of goods (Cycle Economy) and various other sciences as well as practical ways of living a sustainable life.

We truly belief that this Eco-Schools Programme will make Malaysia a Sustainable Development Knowledge Service Center for the ASEAN Region in the future with the presence of experts in the field of green technology from among the younger generation who have been exposed to the Eco-Schools programme.

Exposure to the Eco-Schools programme will also make Malaysians more resilient and innovative in the future. Basically, the first step is education and time to strengthen this programme in all schools in Malaysia has started 10 years ago. We believed that to make it a successful programme, it needs to be accelerated with strong support from the Private Sector.

We are targeting 1000 Schools in next 3 years. Our aspiration is for the programme to reach all schools in Malaysia driven by the private sector through your resources, sponsorship and volunteerism.

In this regard, MGTC in collaboration with GGAF has issued an ‘Adopt-A-School’ (ASP) program which aims to provide opportunities for Government Linked Companies (GLCs) and private companies to become dynamic sponsors in educating young Malaysians about sustainable development. Through the ASP, GLCs, corporations and private companies that are involved in the provision of sponsorship to the Eco-Schools Programme are eligible for tax relief incentives under Subsection 44 (6) ITA 1967 (Reference No .: LHDN.01/35/42/51/179-6.8552) Click to view.

With that regard, we are pleased to invite your company to join our seminar to understand and get a clear picture why you need to participate to make this programme successful. We believe this approach will create more demands towards green technology. The seminar session will be FREE of charge.
